Gambia College orients over 1000 intakes
Over one hundred students have been enrolled to the Gambia College on October 9th 2019 at the institution’s Brikama Campus.
In his welcoming remarks, the Registrar of the Gambia College, Mr. Demba SM. Yabou, congratulated the new intakes on their outstanding performance at WASSCE, saying this year’s results are the best they have received so far. Mr. Yabou urged them to take the best opportunity offered to them and try to strive harder in their academic performance.
“Remember, many students have applied for the College and some of them were unfortunate to be enrolled and now you the fortunate ones should make the best use of the opportunity,” he said.
The Registrar said they are very proud of the college because it has been producing positive and instrumental people who are serving in almost all the sectors of the country.
He also said that the Basse campus cannot be use in this semester as work is still in progress. And he said next semester all the advanced diploma primary and diploma students will be moved to Basse.
Yabou encouraged the new intakes to be dedicated, saying that it’s easy to enter the college but very difficult to leave it.
The Principal of the Gambia College, Abubacarr Jallow, informed the students that his institution is not going to compromise with academic standards. He said they expect all students to pass all their courses and no student will graduate with a fail. “We don’t expect you to be helping each other during examination and any one found doing so, the less punishment you can have is to do a resist for that paper,” he said. Jallow urged the students to respect each other and College staff.
For his part, Kasim Touray, the head of school of education, informed the new intakes that there is a chain of command in the college and students should follow that chain to address whatsoever challenges they might have.
To be successful, Mr. Touray said one needs to be dedicated, hardworking, committed. He also advised the new intakes to always ask their course outline whenever their lecturers comes to class because it serves as a guide and provides the content areas to be covered and read.
The new intakes were introduced to new system of registering their courses on the student portal.
One must pay 50% of the tuition fees before she or he can be registered. The fee for the diploma programmed is D10, 000 per annum, while the advanced diploma is D12, 000 per annum.
“And all those who are under scholarship should take their scholarship letters to the accounts office for clearance before registering for any course,” he said.
